Gramatik is no stranger to the annals of URB, and he’s slowly pushing to becoming a mainstay. Just as we were about to shake out of the office to catch an interview with Gramatik (and later with Jazzy Jeff), we got this dropped in our laps.
Apparently a world tour and launching his own label has not been enough to slow him down, as he announced his side project, Extraordinary Magnitude, and christened the project with a Blackstreet – No Diggity Remix that mashes the track with one of the instrumentals, Proportions, on their forthcoming debut album.
Despite the remix perfectly marrying their track to Teddy Riley’s vocals, this is all systems go for a weekend rotation. The instrumentation and arrangements plain and simply just work. Taking the instrumental aside, this is definitely characteristic of Gramatik’s mastery of different musical genre’s. Adding the presence of 4 other producer/musicians forming Voltron with him on the track only helps to sweeten the pot.
Joining Gramatik on the ExMag team are Brooklyn based musicians Eric Mendelson, Drastiq, Buffalo Analog, and Illumntr. The group itself has an auspicious history behind their formation,’In an effort to save the universe from eminent doom, five Brooklyn-based producers were summoned by seven mysterious babes from outer space. Sent by powers unknown to save the galaxy from annihilation, the babes projected visions in the minds of the producers. They must now join forces to interpret these visions through sound as EXTRAORDINARY MAGNITUDE.’
