There was a time when white rappers were a thing. Remember that? There was even a VH1 reality show on finding the next white rapper. A lot has changed since then. Now more than ever, Asian-Americans are playing major roles in the hip hop community, whether they are DJ’s, writers, designers, or rappers. Today, we put the spotlight on an Asian-American rapper from Queens, NY who is creating some buzz. He goes by the name of Rekstizzy and this past summer, he released his second album, “Whatever You Say.” Chances are you probably have not heard of him or a ton of other Asian rappers out there that’s not named Jin, but that’s where we comes in.
With a “I don’t give a…” attitude, Rek creates music that replicates his personality. Determined not to be judged by his ethnicity, Rekstizzy is strictly dedicated to making music fun for everyone to enjoy. Only months after releasing “Whatever You Say,” he’s already back in writing mode, working on his next projects. With a collaboration with the legendary CHOPS (of Mountain Brothers’ fame) already in the works, this newcomer must be doing something right, so we sat down to learn a little more about the guy who calls himself an American Hero.
