Last Friday, URB Magazine was invited to see GRiZ perform live in New York City at Terminal 5. While he’s been touring heavily in the past year, GRiZ was recently put in our radar for his saxophone-infused, funky, soulful, head boppin’ electronic music. As we all gathered in the green room, talking prior to his performance, one can’t ignore how genuine and deep of an person this musician is.
With over 1,000 kids outside waiting for the headliner, was this 23 year old DJ/producer/saxophonist talking philosophy with us: on the worst human emotion (he mentioned apathy) and talking about his moment of bliss: being awake at four in the morning, alone in front of his house, smoking a cigarette, just after finishing a song.
After listening to him talk and doing this interview with him, I concluded that I’ve landed on the GRiZ bandwagon. With a ton of talent and a humble perspective, I look forward to his continued success as he proceeds in his musical journey.
