HBO wants to encourage more hip-hop heads and reggaeton fans to partake in the popular American fantasy drama series, Game of Thrones by bringing in 10 hip-hop and Latin-music artists to rhyme about the show. A team of producers at New York’s Launch Point Records spent time layering samples of dialogue and music from the show over hip-hop beats, while the artists dropped verses over them. The end result, a hip-hop “mixtape” titled “Catch the Throne” that is expected to be released online on Friday, March 7th. The goal is to reach out to the show’s urban, “multicultural” audience to help attract more viewers and expand the premium cable channel’s subscriber base. The mixtape will include tracks from hip-hop emcees such as: Wale, Common, Big Boi of Outkast, and several Latin-crossover artists including reggaeton star Daddy Kane and rapper Bodega Bamz.
