“I love this record. It’s unlike anything I’ve done before. Piano, drums, bass, and guitar. That’s it. It’s bare, but very deep. Raw, but melodically complex. I love Kristeen. So much. I’ve never met anyone like her. Neither have you,” says Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters fame.
Grohl met Kristeen Young in the most unexpected of ways. He was a guest host on ‘Chelsea Lately’ last year and was given a mixtape by stand-up comic April Richardson. Within the mix was a song by Young, which Grohl really liked, eventually leading him to look her up on Youtube and reaching out to her. It just so happens Young needed a drummer. Fast forward to now, Grohl has lent his drumming skills on every track on Kristeen Young’s The Knife Shift album which comes out May 13th.
As for the title to the above single, Young randomly landed on Sasha Grey’s Facebook page where she encountered pic after pic of Grey doing normal, everyday things like the rest of us. Amidst all this were inappropriate comments from tons of males. Grey’s insistence on ignoring the negativity to move beyond her past work is what inspired today’s track.
