As the winter sets in, (at least in places where there are seasons like in New York City), we ask ourselves; where is the escape hatch? Well, it’s staring you in the face. Introducing Envision Festival, a 4 day journey hosted in the lush land of The Republic of Costa Rica at Rancho La Merced in Utiva that takes place February 26th-March 1st. In this pristine country, wildlife is so radical that there is more diversity in the collective bird species than all of the animal species in all of North America. Aside from the abundant nature, the festival offers a space to connect with community and transform through music, movement, workshops and the power of the Pacific Ocean.
Like Burning Man, (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization), this festival is not about big commercial headliners, it’s more about bringing together a community of international artists, musicians and speakers to a beautiful country whose people believe in “Pura Vida”, sustainability and conservation as opposed to the military industrial complex (they abolished their military in 1949). Since so many “gringos” now call Costa Rica their home, its fairly cheap to fly to into San Jose and now Liberia, although once you get there, it’s unfortunately just as expensive as the States.
Festival founder, Steven Brooks, is from Miami and was “deeply inspired by Burning Man and wanted to create experiences that drastically improve people’s lives by sharing conscious festival culture, merging a good time with a transformative experience. We wanted to open more eyes to this kind of reality”.
The festival’s already stacked lineup has grown considerably with the addition of several highly anticipated and well-regarded acts. Folk traditions stay alive with the addition of Lulacruza, Passiflora and Shimshai, and the underground sounds of AtyYa, Defunk, Perkulat0r bring that bass drip to the lineup. Psytrance legend Hedflux is joined by the acid crunk captain an-ten-nae, and Canadian basstronauts Stylust Beats and The Funk Hunters. The Desert Hearts crew is well-repped by Mikey Lion, Porkchop and Tara Brooks, bringing their house and techno from the desert to the jungle. They join The Polish Ambassador, Phaeleh, Emancipator, Random Rab, Ott, reggae legends Groundation, and so many more talented acts on a bill busting with fan favorites.
Another group of artists performing at the festival that you should keep an eye out for is Avant Muse. The collaborative collective is comprised of artists, musicians, performers, scientists and sages, “The Agents of Creation”. Through live music, interactive installations, unique performance, dynamic storytelling and experiential education; The Agents of Creation offer inroads to broaden awareness by presenting an invitation to experience, explore and discover.
Each member of the collective brings a unique alchemy to the mix of Avant Muse. The Agents of Creation are well seasoned professionals in their respective field and have been awarded a seat at our table of creation based on unique creative gifts. In this mix they blend the colors of our craft into captivating experiences that rely on music and sound frequencies, immersive video projections, movement and choreography, unique interactive musical instruments and educational experiences.
Avant Muse is known for creating powerful live performances and interactive installations that push the boundaries of the disciplines and technologies involved, weaving new, experiential tapestries of light, sound and movement that envelope the audience and participants in magic and wonder.
