The bodega is a purveyor of shitty processed goods that over time lead to obesity and cancer but also likely the only place in your neighborhood to get a roast beef sandwich and tallboy around midnight. Over a grimy Black-Tokyo beat, Uncommon Nasa and Elucid dissect the NYC staple on “This Bodega (Is Trying to Kill Me),” a standout track from Nasa’s 2014 album New York Telephone.
Nasa was the sound engineer for Def Jux from 2000-2005, and that label’s aesthetic is all over his latest album. Originally released last August on cassette/digital, New York Telephone is being re-released on vinyl April 7 via Four Finger Distro. In addition to the 12-track blue vinyl, the deluxe LP includes downloads of the album, instrumentals, acapellas, and a 7-song EP featuring remixes from Rob Sonic, Willie Green, Zilla Rocca and more.
The New York Telephone deluxe LP is now available for pre-order.
