“When I loose my voice, it’s the only moment in my life that I feel depression.” – Daymé Arocena
Cuban singer, arranger and composer Daymé Arocena is preparing for her June 9th release (pre-order) of her Nueva Era album via Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings imprint.
The 22-year old songstress has been a semi-professional singer since the age of eight, sang lead with the big band Los Primos at the age of 14 and has performed with Winton Marsalis, among others. Nueva Era was recorded in just a few days in both London and Havana, Cuba and was produced by Daymé herself, Gilles Peterson and DJ/Producer, Simbad. Daymé describes the album as a mix of Afro-Cuban, classical, folkloric, and jazz.
Today, check out the first single from Nueva Era for the song “Don’t Unplug My Body” alongside a brief album promo video.
