Daymé Arocena Sings “Madres” Live in London
This is on some grown and sexy…. Time and time again, I am surprised at the music Gilles Peterson discovers for his Brownswood Recordings imprint. The latest is by Havana, Cuba’s Daymé Arocena who is getting ready to release her first album through GP’s imprint on June 9th (pre-order).
Nueva Era is comprised of a mix of Afro-Cuban, Jazz, Folks and Classical music and serves as another example of Cuba’s rich music community.
Today, we have a clip of the young songstress singing “Madres” in London at Saint Pancras Old Church. She introduces the song as a dedication to the maternal saints of Yemaya and Ochun. Sung in both Yoruba and Spanish, “Madres” is just a taste of Daymé Arocena’s upcoming album “Nueva Era.”
