Illa J reflects on his brother’s legacy with the latest single “Never Left.” The younger Yancey is preparing his latest project, a self-titled album which is due out October 2nd via Bastard Jazz. The album is a culmination of a relationship with production duo Potatohead People, which started and grew when the young MC re-located to Montreal.
“When I rep my bro, I’m reppin’ my blood.” – Illa J
In “Never Left,” Illa J uses Lord of the Ring as a metaphor for Dilla’s legacy, spotlighting the integrity of artists who have questionably used Dilla’s name for their own personal gain.
Pre-order links for the upcoming full length album will arrive shortly, but in the meantime, the buy-link for the last single “Universe” is available now.
