Nia Andrews hails from Inglewood, California. She also happens to be the daughter of Reggie Andrews, a music teacher who happened to have some notable students such as Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Tyrese, and members of The Internet. Nia explains, “Some of my earliest memories are sitting on the floor as a kid watching The Pharcyde make music in the living room of an apartment my Dad rented out, where a bunch of young emcees, dancers and beat makers would come to create and hang.” Wow. What an upbringing to envy.
Even with all her surroundings and influences, Nia’s artistry grew in secret, teaching herself how to make music, and paying her dues to rightfully establish herself as talented musician. Through her hard work, she released her debut EP, landed an opening gig on Corine Bailey Rae’s West Coast US tour and even scored a residency in LA’s hip Ace Hotel.
All this culmination brings up to today. Nia Andrews readies the release of her forthcoming four-track EP entitled From Here (releases August 26th; pre-order). The new project has her extending her reach wider than ever and today, we have for you the premier of her single, “Sue.”
Additionally, Nia Andrews is part of the lineup for the Common Culture show happening on September 18th at Hollywood’s Ford Theatres. Partnered with Mama Earth, the event will be celebrating LA’s own “El Maestro” Lazaro Galarraga featuring acts such as Chloe x Halle, MARK de CLIVE-LOWE (MdCL), Jungle Fire, and Brit Manor, after a $65M renovation of the venue. You can find more info on the concert here and we’re also doing a ticket giveaway right now which you can join below.
