Who is Weekend Money? I can tell you but that would defeat the purpose of this interview. Besides, they can talk about themselves better than I ever can. But I will tell you how I came across the eclectic hip hop duo. I first heard of Weekend Money back in summer of 2013. I can’t pinpoint when exactly but one day, while I was at Governors Ball, I saw someone wearing a “W$” hat and I realized I was slackin’ and really needed to check these guys out. I went home, Googled and downloaded their EP, “Naked City,” a dope nine track effort. Track 3, “COKE’n’COFFEE” was my ish. Then I came across the next song which blew my mind. The track was called “Yellow” featuring Heems (formerly of Das Racist), and boy was it a banger. From the amped production to the lyrical prowess of Ness and Heems, the song had club hit written all over it. The Brooklyn-based group reached out to friends ATL Twins, Hot Sugar, Fat Tony, Jimmy McMillan, and Dan Smith to create a very entertaining music video for the track, and the rest is history. Not long ago, W$ dropped their debut LP, “Freddie Merkury” and we had a chance to sit down and pick their brains a little.
