Red Bull Music Academy Festival Presents ‘beat:repeat NY’ (Trailer)
The second annual Red Bull Music Academy Festival kicks off today in New York City and today, the RBMA announced a new documentary series called beat:repeat NY, spotlighting NYC anthems and the drum machines that were used to create them. The documentary features Blondie’s Chris Stein, Arthur Baker, Le Tigre’s Johanna Fateman, Black Moon’s Evil Dee and Ninja Tune’s Lee Bannon. The series is made up of eight episodes, focusing on the beat from the moment of inspiration that led to become the classics that it is today.
I just found some more information on the beat:repeat NYC drum machine exhibit that’s to take place at the Red Bull Studios in NYC. In collaboration with the author of Beat Box: A Drum Machine Obsession Joe Mansfield, the exhibition will highlight 101 vintage drum machines and their impact on music over the past 60 years when the instrument was first introduced. Explore the foundation of classic tracks like Suicide screaming over a cheap Seeburg to Arthur Baker setting an 808 running beneath Afrika Bambaataa from Wednesdays to Sundays throughout the month of May from 12-7pm starting this Saturday.
