This week’s URB podcast is nothing short of a lesson in virtuous club sonics; because Kevin McHugh, better known to the underground as Ambivalent, is schooling all of us who are listening. Building up a sterling reputation for the better part of a decade, Ambivalent has scoped the worlds of house and techno with a unique pulse on what’s moving forward in time and motion. Releasing records on labels such as M_nus, Ovum and most recently on Deft, (“Red Ones EP” which comes out next week digitally), McHugh has taken the next step by setting up his own imprint, Valence, which explores rudimentary dub techno and expands on it the only way an Ambivalent production can; by making it bang and clang. It’s for this reason that having him contribute a mix to URB was a no-brainer. We don’t even need the tracklist, we just need our ears and the will to rave forever. You should do the same if you’re reading this.
